Fartlek Friday XX: I compare racism to dog gas in this post

FartlekFriday_BannerI love Fridays. Love. Especially when it is the day before a race. Those are the best kind of Fridays. Which is actually pretty strange considering this Friday night will end up with me going to sleep at 9pm after eating a bowl of spaghetti and handful of prunes. Kind of makes me sound as exciting as a 80 year old hemorrhoid patient.

But, I am excited to run tomorrow’s Ironwill Half Marathon. Even though most of my friends will be running the Ogden Marathon tomorrow, my friend and cousins and I will be running the paths around Camp Williams which should be a challenging course from what I’ve read.

Not only will Ironwill be the last of five consecutive races, it will be my last race before my marathon. DEEP BREATH. DEEP BREATH. DEEP BREATH.

I’m getting a little nervous though about my legs. After my race last weekend my quads haven’t really been on speaking terms with me. So, I tried to take it slow this week and recover the best I could. I am a bit worried because I would like to get 100 miles in for the week. But, we’ll have to see if that’s possible.

But, I did get in a couple of runs of three miles this week and then I have tomorrow’s half marathon … soooooo … I’m chipping away. I’ll need to have a couple of good long runs next week and the 31st. But, consistency will really be my key during the week.Oh, this marathon process is fun isn’t it?

Anyways, here are a few other things that caught my attention this past week …

  • I officially upgraded my entry from the half to the full marathon for the Big Cottonwood Marathon in September. This will be my fifth marathon and second of the year. I really don’t expect to run another one this year. I think two is enough. Plus, I am doing a back-to-back half marathon in July so that’s good for me.
  • I am excited for the Big Cottonwood Marathon because I will be running it side-by-side with my friend Jill. This will be her and her husband’s first marathon.
  • You might remember Jill from this picture. Also from some of these pictures. This year’s Salt Lake City Half Marathon has been HANDS DOWN one of my favorite race experiences. And, I was so lucky to share it with Jill. I can’t wait to share the experience of her first marathon.
  • I am now in the process of figuring out my training schedule. Something I should do quickly before I sign up for races.
  • I am also going to need to reassess my sub-two half marathon goal. Do I try it now at Nebo a week before? Do I try for a PR at the Run Elevated Half in August? Will that kill my marathon? Oh, the internal questions I must ask myself.
  • I should hopefully have my marathon training plan by next week. I’ll make sure to post it on the bloggy blog.
  • I am feeling the need to sign up for all of the races in the world. I hate and love this feeling. But, I want to run them all …
  • How can this NOT make your Friday better?
  • How can this NOT ruin your Friday?
  • I was talking about baby names this past week with family and I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to give one of my kids the middle name of “Danger” … it just needs to happen.
  • I also really want to call one of my kids “Thor” … but … my little brother has staked claim to it. But, we’ll see … I guess it’s a race between us now to see who has kids first.
  • What about Thor Danger Hansen? Ooooo … what about Danger Thor Hansen? DT Hansen?  The possibilities are endless.
  • Of course this is all dependant on what my future wife wants. Let’s just hope she is AWESOME and has those same baby names on her list.
  • My future wife will also be awesome if she agrees to any one of these furniture selections.
  • But, before I talk about my future wife I’ve got to actually find a wife. This might be helpful?
  • Okay, maybe not?
  • It’s times like these that I am grateful that I don’t actually have any REAL cats. Just a bunch of cat shirts. I think that’s better, right?
  • But, I’ll be honest I’d have a hard time passing up on a three-legged cat if I had the chance.
  • Interesting.
  • You know as a Clippers fan I really wish that Donald Sterling would just shut up and sell the team. He can’t help but continue to shoot himself in the foot.
  • I’m so glad you would never see the Miller Family do something so STUPID like Sterling. You would think since it’s 2014 we would be past a lot of this JUNK? I think for the most part we are, but it’s like a stinky dog fart that lingers much longer than needed (sorry for the analogy, but I feel it very appropriate considering the topic).
  • YEAH COMIC CON!!!
  • I need an animal in my life.
  • Thank you Solange. Now to get her close to Bieber. And, maybe Drake?
  • I can’t believe I am actually giving space to that. But, honestly, there’s such a disconnect between celebrities and reality that sometimes it’s actually more comical than anything.
  • I love the name Solange. Almost just as much Beyonce. Maybe one day I can name one of my future daughters Beyonce Solange Hansen? Me likey.
  • I want this bike.
  • Actually, who am I kidding I don’t want a bike … period. I hate bikes.
  • Why you ask? Well, as a kid I almost crashed my bike. No joke. Into gutters, curbs and even into parked cars. My siblings still make fun of me to this day after they watched me run right into our neighbor’s parked blue pickup truck.
  • Do you still wonder why I spent over 8 years in Special Ed?
  • This should be required reading for humanity.
  • Sign me up.
  • BAHAHAHA!!!
  • I wrote a review of the Riverton Half Marathon I ran back in March for RunUtah.com. Here’s the magazine … my review is on page 35.
  • mmmm … street food. I think I need to visit London.
  • Actually, I really need to become a much better world traveler. The extent of my international traveling is basically British Columbia and the tourist spots of Mexico. I feel like I should somehow count Hawaii in that, but yeah …
  • Here are a few of the countries and places I’d love to visit …
    • Visit all of Greece.
    • Visit all of Norway (or at least most of the not-so-cold parts).
    • Visit Rome, Italy.
    • Tour all of London, England.
    • Climb the Great Wall of China.
    • Set foot on Antarctica (or at the very least pet a penguin).
    • Visit Fiji (their commercials are very convincing).
  • There’s probably more I could add to that list, but I want to at least start there.
  • Oh, I also want to visit ALL Disney parks around the world. But, that should pretty much be a given, right?
  • I really need a Disney vacation soon. It’s been almost two years since I’ve gone.
  • This is a really good reminder about staying hydrated while running the summer heat.
  • Speaking of hydration drinks my favorite is hands down Orange Gatorade. Heck, I remember back in the day when Gatorade bottles were glass.
  • Now that I think about it though that doesn’t seem like a very good idea mixing sports with glass bottles. I’m glad they made the change.
  • The California Raisins shouldn’t be on this list. Whatsoever.
  • Besides I love raisins. Especially in cookies.
  • And, rice pudding.
  • And, granola.
  • And, cereal.
  • But, not by themselves. Never by themselves.
  • I need to buy a couch and see what I find in the cushions. But, with my luck I’d only find pennies, lint and used gum. But, still, I can dream.
  • CATS!!!
  • MEGAMOUTH SHARKS!!!
  • TINDER!!!
  • I need to up my game.
  • I really like this list.
  • Oh, the Utah Jazz rebuilding process. It will be interesting to see what happens with the coaching search and the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday. I am kind of excited to see what happens to the team next year.
  • I’m praying that we win the lottery. PRAYING!
  • My emotional attachment to the Utah Jazz is somewhat disturbing. When I was a kid my Dad played an April Fool’s joke on me by saying that the Jazz announced they were going to move to Las Vegas. I cried. Uncontrollably. Then in 1995 when we lost in the first round to the Rockets I cried in the car doing fast offerings. Again, uncontrollably.
  • I have attachment issues. But, I feel like this should be addressed later on.
  • This is pretty cool.
  • I agree on all of these suggestions.
  • But, the real question here, is can do the same things on a Segway?
  • I do love dogs.
  • But, speaking of dogs. I feel for those mail carriers. They have a tough job sometimes.
  • I need to make these.
  • Ok, I need some grilled cheese right about … now.
  • Like, really, I feel like I need it now.
  • Ok, I lied, I just need a burrito.

Well, that’s it for me this week. A great big wish to my friends running the Ogden Marathon tomorrow. Especially all the ones running their first marathon. What a great experience. And, what a great journey the marathon is!

HAPPY RUNNING THIS WEEKEND! See you Monday!

Nice Article ! You can now proudly update your resume with that critical education disclaimer ..”Published Author.” Looks I just found a new source of information and entertainment about the Utah running community.
