Fight4Phat: Winter running, the Jonas Brothers and this week’s weigh-in … among other things

I am not going to write much here, because I think pretty much everything that should and can be said about this week can be summed up by yesterday’s post on finding a balanced thyroid and testosterone. I’ve been doing a lot of research and Googling on ways to naturally heal and reverse the affects of my hypothyroidism and low testosterone.

It should be noted that I am NOT going unmedicated, I’m just not wholly relying on the medicine — or doctors. I’m still taking my Armour Thyroid meds and doing what I need to there, but I’ve got to fight beyond just the doctor’s office to find a solution. So, yeah, give it a read.

A lot of fun stuff coming up this weekend and next week — have a race tomorrow (see below), recording a Runcast tomorrow as well, hopefully I’ll have a new little nephew sooner than later (my sister is teeming to the brim of pregnancy at this point) and — well — everything else that comes with life.

After doing all my research on my thyroid and testosterone I am feeling excited, motivated and just ready to burst through this funk of the past couple of years. I just need to remember that even if I don’t see immediate and dramatic results — I gotta just keep fighting.

It’s been a looooooong 29 days since my last race. In fact that’s probably a record since I first started running. But, seriously, even though it’s “JUST” a 5K, I am really — really — really excited about it.

I am excited for it, for a couple reasons — one, it’s a run, two, I am running with my friends. Well, I guess there’s a third? There’s also the polar plunge at the end of the race. I’m excited and hesitant about it — but, more excited than anything.

Basically it’s a jump into Utah Lake — which actually should be where most of my hesitation comes from, considering all the three-eyed fish that live in the lake. But, it will be fun.

Then after the race Jorge, Jim, Tim and I are recording an episode of the Runcast — which will air next Friday (Feb. 4) on PodBash.

Basically — tomorrow’s gonna be fun! Can’t wait!

The first episode of Are We Prepared, Yet? is airing today. Basically, it’s a preparedness — prepper — podcast. But, not your typical preparedness podcast. We do take our content seriously, but present it more in a — morning show style — if you’d call it that.

If you’re interested in following us you can do so on Facebook, Instagram and over on the Twitter. We also will have a page over on and we’ll be on iTunes. Sooooooooo … make sure to subscribe.

Anyways — expect an episode bi-weekly. It’ll be a lot of fun!

COMMENTARY: I won’t lie — not very happy with the numbers. And, that’s really been the feeling I’ve had for the past couple of years — and it’s the mentality I trying to change. I will say this — I am excited to see the numbers next week after a whole week of being on my thyroid/testosterone happy fitness plan. I’m hoping to see a big difference.

The focus this upcoming week is two fold — it’s focusing on that fitness plan and watching my sugar intake. I am not just talking about sugary snacks — but, basically every day food. Mainly, because sugar is in EVERYTHING and sugar really is the devil to any diet regardless of your condition.

I’m three weeks into my 12 week program and it’s adapting a bit, but this is exactly the route I took when I first lost my weight in 2009. It didn’t happen overnight and like Dr. Leo Marvin preached … “baby steps”

I’m pretty sure if I made this into a diet plan it would be called, “The Toddler Diet” #ieatlikeatoddler

Since this is a kid’s shirt, I’m pretty sure the implied risk requires jail time. #gettingrealatwalmart
