2018 will be my eighth year of running. I have done numerous races multiple times and I thought it would be fun to look back at some of these races throughout the coming year as I prepare to run the current year’s race.
I have documented all of my races toward my 180 race goal on my Instagram account @joshruns180. It includes my time, the date of the race and a brief synopsis. I will be basically pulling those Instagram posts for this column.
I hope you enjoy my look back …
RACE #5: New Year’s Run Resolution (2:55:32), December 31, 2011. I won’t lie — I hated this run. And, for good reason. I was still very new to the running community and I didn’t know anyone. So I just plugged my earphones in and ran. One of the reasons I didn’t take any pictures for this race. I’m such a bad blogger. #race5 #runresolution #running @extramileracing @joshruns180 @josherwalla
RACE #56: Run Resolution (3:27:36), January 11, 2014. Had a BLAST running this year’s event. It was a major social event and it was fun running with Becky, Camille and a number of other friends. The social component helps you forget the fact you’re running around on an indoor track. #race56 #runresolution #running @extramileracing @joshruns180 @josherwalla
RACE #85: Resolution Run (4:34:16), January 1, 2015. I shouldn’t have been running. But, over the years I’ve learned to run through anything. What I thought was a minor cold — actually ended up being the flu. It was a miserable “run” and by that I mean there was a lot of walking. No energy. Just, blah. I was planning on another race a couple days later, but came to my senses and instead basically died for the weekend. #race85 #resolutionrun #running @extramileracing @joshruns180 @josherwalla
RACE #116: Resolution Run (15 miles in 5:00 hours), January 1, 2016. Probably the most hair you’ll ever see me sport. But, fun party race at the Resolution Run. Did over 15 miles in the five hour race limit. Walked, ran, partied and just had fun. A much needed race to help launch the new year. #race116 #resolutionrun #running @extramileracing @joshruns180 @josherwalla
RACE #137: Resolution Run (20.5 miles in 5:00 hours), December 31, 2016. Ended the year how I started off the year — running circles around the Olympic Oval. Knocked out 20.5 miles, 5 more than the January 1 run! Set myself on hourly lap walk/run intervals — 1:2, 1:1, 1:2, 1:1 and 1:2. Not a bad to do it. It kept me motivated to keep running and pushing. Because let’s be honest — it’s too easy to get distracted with so many friends around every corner of the track. I’m excited for the new year and new goals in front of me. This was the best way to catapult me into 2017! #race137 #revolutionrun #running @fit.phat @josherwalla
