Not a bad week of running. I mixed it with a good mixture of cross-training and boot camp, not to mention my diet was pretty dang good. I dropped about 4-5lbs. and it would have probably been more, but I jumped a little on Thursday because of free lunch at work. It wasn’t fried chicken or something totally greasy just a sandwich with a bit too many carbs than I was used to eating for the week. No biggie, I’m going in the right direction towards my ideal race weight.
In addition to training I also ran a 5K in Orem on Saturday, well, I should say four 5Ks? I ended up running 12 miles with Susette, Vince and the Gabicas. There’s less than one week left of the month and I am now sitting at 85 miles for the month. You can guess what my goal for this next week is … GET TO 100! I’m now just trying to figure out when and how? I could do three runs of 5 miles or break up them into five runs of 3 miles. Hmmm … decisions, decisions. Either way, I am getting to 100 miles for the month. I’m pumped!
Long Term Goal(s) – Run a sub-two half marathon by September 2014 & Run 20 miles with Becca on April 26th for her marathon training.
Tuesday (1/21) – 3.0 miles (29 minutes/9:45 pace)
Treadmill, Planet Fitness – Clipped it at a constant 9:45 quick pace for three miles. Midway through the run I started feeling it physically (more in the lungs than anything). But, kept at it. I am making each Tuesday speed-work day. I am going to keep pushing it doing three miles for the next 3-5 weeks and then work myself into doing a quick five miles.
Wednesday (1/22) – 5.0 miles (55 minutes/10:59 pace) & 1.5 miles (35 minutes/23:19)
Treadmill, Planet Fitness – Just a simple run. Since I did speed work the day before I really didn’t have an agenda for this run. I just ran it for running’s sake. These are some of my favorite kind of runs. I did however wear a white cotton t-shirt. Luckily, I didn’t get bloody nipples, but I did manage to complete drench the shirt to my skin. It was awkward. You could see my man boobs through my shirt. I tried to leave the gym as inconspicuous as possible. But, I’m sure someone noticed. It was hard to miss. I need to be better at picking out running shirts.
Work, University of Utah – Ran errands at work and did a little speed walking on the hills. I’m counting this towards my miles because I strategically sped walked the campus. Oh, and I sweat.
Thursday (1/23) – 3.0 miles (32 minutes/10:36 pace)
Treadmill, Planet Fitness – I was planning on running five miles, but ended up settling for three because I had a church basketball game later that night and got home later than I wanted. I clipped my first mile at a 09:40 pace just to see if I could do the whole three at a fast clip. No, not yet. So, I slowed it down to about a 10:40ish pace for the last two miles. Not a bad run. My legs are getting to where I need them. After the run I ended up playing the whole game in the basketball game. After the game my legs were shot. I got my miles and sprints in!
Saturday (1/25) – 12.0 miles (2:18 hours /11:24 pace)
Indoors, Utah Valley University – Second year running the NoSnow 5K on the campus of UVU. Ran the halls of the Student Union. Got to the race around 7am to run a few miles before the race started at 9am. Ended up running a total of 12 miles in all. I ran my training miles fairly slow, but clipped it during the actual race. Sometimes I can’t help but do that while I am in a crowd of runners. Good training run and a fun time with friends. I’ll definitely return next year for the race and undoubtedly training run.
This week’s plan – 3-5 slow miles (Monday), 3 fast miles (Tuesday), 5 miles (Wednesday), 5 miles (Thursday) and 10 miles (Saturday).2014 Training Miles – 55.9 miles 2014 Race Miles – 29.3 miles 2014 Total Miles – 85.2 miles
